Remi Bader’s Weight Loss Journey: Ozempic’s Harrowing Side Effects and the Road to Surgery

Remi Bader, the 30-year-old TikTok star known for her candid takes on fashion and body positivity, has opened up about her tumultuous weight loss journey—one that included a battle with Ozempic, binge eating disorder, and ultimately, gastric bypass surgery.

The Ozempic Nightmare

In a revealing interview with Self on March 26, Bader shared that she underwent gastric bypass surgery (SADI-S) in December 2023 after struggling with various weight loss medications, including Ozempic, Vyvanse, and the antidepressant Wellbutrin.

But it was Ozempic, the wildly popular weight loss drug, that delivered the most brutal side effects. “It’s different for everyone, [but] I was throwing up every day from it,” she admitted. Nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, and constipation are some of the drug’s most common side effects, according to its manufacturer—Bader, unfortunately, got the worst of it.

After ditching Ozempic, she spent two years working with doctors, psychiatrists, and eating disorder specialists to tackle her binge eating, which she was diagnosed with in 2019. She attended Overeaters Anonymous meetings, tried other weight loss medications, and even enrolled in a six-week eating disorder treatment program.

A Secret Struggle with Mounjaro

Despite her efforts, Bader’s binge eating symptoms returned, leading her to secretly try Mounjaro—another semaglutide medication similar to Ozempic. She recalled thinking, “This is the worst thing I could be doing,” but continued taking it in secret. However, the cycle repeated—Mounjaro also caused relentless vomiting, forcing her to quit.

By January 2023, Bader attempted Ozempic one last time, this time paired with Metformin (a diabetes medication) in hopes of reducing side effects. But the vomiting persisted, and she finally abandoned weight loss drugs for good.

Surgery and a Shift in Identity

After years of struggling, Bader opted for gastric bypass surgery in late 2023, a decision that sparked mixed reactions from her followers. Known for embracing her curvy figure, some fans felt she should have been more transparent about her weight loss journey. “I get the frustration there,” she admitted.

But for Bader, this transformation has been just as confusing for her as it has been for her audience. “I loved being curvy my whole life; I just did. It was who I was,” she shared. But when her health began deteriorating, she realized she was fighting a losing battle. “I will always believe that you can be a bigger size and be healthy and happy. I was for a while, that wasn’t a lie. But there was a point when it shifted, and I became really unhappy.”

From viral TikToks to personal health struggles, Bader’s journey is a testament to the complicated relationship between body image, public perception, and personal well-being. Now, she’s embracing her next chapter—one that’s still unfolding, but on her own terms.
