Dawn Robinson: From En Vogue to Living in a Car – A Tale of Survival and Strength

Dawn Robinson, the powerhouse vocalist who helped define ’90s R&B as a founding member of En Vogue, has revealed a startling truth: for the past three years, she has been living in her car.

In an emotional revelation on her YouTube channel, Robinson, best known for hits like My Lovin’ (You’re Never Gonna Get It) and Hold On, candidly shared her struggle. “I was going to tell you guys when I first started this channel, but I wasn’t ready,” she admitted. “And people said, ‘You’re a celebrity. What if they judge you?’ And I said, ‘So what? We’re all human.’”

Robinson recounted how she ended up in her car three years ago. In 2020, she moved in with her parents in Las Vegas, but when that situation changed, she relocated to Los Angeles, where a friend offered to help her out. However, space was tight, and she eventually ended up in a hotel for eight months before turning to an unconventional solution: living in her car.

What started as a necessity became a lifestyle shift. Instead of despair, she embraced it as an adventure, even researching the “car life” movement and learning from others who made it work. “I felt free,” Robinson said, describing the unexpected transition.

Despite the hardships, she is not looking for sympathy. Instead, she hopes her story will inspire others to find resilience in the face of adversity. “It’s not ‘woe is me,’” she emphasized. “Life is life, and we all go through things. This is just part of my journey.”

Rather than hide her experience, Robinson is using her platform to shed light on alternative lifestyles and show that unconventional paths can still lead to fulfillment. As she continues to navigate this chapter, she promises to share more about her experiences living in her car, proving that even in the toughest times, strength and self-discovery can take center stage.
